I joined Making Sense right from the start in J1, and Chemistry has not been a problem for me ever since. As the tutors never fail to deliver content in an engaging and dynamic manner, I really looked forward to attending my lessons weekly, albeit Chemistry being an extremely content-heavy and a seemingly dry subject. Before joining Making Sense, I couldn’t keep up with lessons in school, and I felt very lost after tutorials. However, after joining Making Sense for a few months, I was able to understand and grasp concepts quite well as they not only provided me with past year questions, but also questions curated from a selection of other schools. They pick questions of higher calibre so as to challenge students’ understanding of chemistry knowledge and are patient at going through the questions with me.

Nearing A level period, Making Sense Chemistry even boosted the number of lessons per week so that I can use the time in class to revise on concepts and to iron out my misunderstandings. This helps to reduce the extra revision time for chemistry outside of class and allows me to spend more time on other subjects that I am weaker in. They even have a telegram group chat that can answer my questions outside of class and I feel that it is especially useful for my revision. I also feel that the 1 hour 45 minute class time is just right for me, because teachers are able to cover the necessary information without overloading me with too much new information.

One thing I love about Making Sense is how structured the lessons are. Within one lesson, the teacher can cover a summary of the previous lessons, new content and even practice questions on the new content we learnt. To me, it was extremely effective because it allows me to recall what we have learnt the previous week and also ensure that the new content we have learnt is applied immediately into questions. Furthermore, joining Making Sense allowed me to cut down the amount of time spent on revising so that I can head straight to doing practice questions and examination papers. Just by attending a class every week, it helps me clear up doubts and questions I have on a specific topic after I have learnt it in school because concepts can be quite difficult to grasp in JC. Making Sense challenges us with many integrated questions which are more common in papers in recent years. It prepares me for the variety of questions I can face in exams so that i would know how to tackle them.

I still remember the first ever lesson I had with Making Sense – during that time I was absolutely clueless about organic chemistry, but the way they broke down the key concepts of the topic and linked each component seamlessly, changed the way I viewed chemistry forever, from a subject I was contented with just passing to one that I could top my class with.

The thing about Making Sense is that during lessons, they take the time to let you understand, and not just simply memorise. From their concise notes, array of application questions challenging you to go above and beyond, to the team of excellent teachers clearly committed to helping you every step of the way, Making Sense was definitely the saving balm of my JC life.

With Making Sense, I could trust that they would take care of my chemistry for me, so that I could focus on the rest of my subjects. I honestly do not think you can get this value elsewhere.

What I really like about Making Sense is the fact that the teachers always take the effort to get to know each of their students personally, be it small catch ups before lessons start or after answering our questions at the end of class. After attending lessons at Making Sense, I am better able to take on more challenging questions with less anxiety. I went from completely not knowing where to start to being able to handle such questions with confidence. The materials given during class covers a wide range of questions, from basic, must-know questions to set our foundation to carefully chosen higher order questions to push us further. Each question always had a learning point for us, either small tips and tricks or a new approach for the unseen question.

Apart from the materials given, the feedback provided by the teachers when they review our papers at the end of each examination is also very detailed. They would analyse our weaker and stronger topics as well as our proficiency in the different skills such as recall and application. After the feedback, I’m always clearer on how I should continue with my revision and the specific areas I should work on. This really helped me in setting aside more time for other subjects as I’m able to optimise my study sessions to focus on my weaker areas as compared to simply repeating the entire syllabus. I still remember my first lesson: a crash course on Chemical Kinetics. As I’ve never taken tuition before, I was really very worried; would this be a waste of time and money? What if I still don’t understand anything? Most of all, my pride couldn’t accept the fact that I needed tuition just to do well for A levels. However, I was blown away in that one lesson by the ease in which you helped us to realise concepts, link topics together and remember things. I think it’s safe to say that if you lectured in a school, no one would be skipping lectures ever again. Concepts which eluded me for more than a year were suddenly debunked. For anyone who thinks that tuition is just a second school lecture to refresh our memories and thousands of drill questions, maybe they are right, but that is definitely not William’s lessons. He has redefined the idea of tuition for me.

It is inspiring to witness the joy with which you teach your students, and how you add in lame but very funny jokes. The small gestures you do like asking us individually “How’s prelims?” or remembering every single one of us by our name or by teaching continuously for more than 12 hours a day and sacrificing health just for us, will not be forgotten. With that, thank you so much. I’d definitely recommend Making Sense to all my juniors.

I was only under you for half a year but I can assure you, the impact you have made in my life was tremendous. I first joined your class during the Kinetics Crash Course just to accompany a friend, with no intention of joining the tuition mostly because I’m not someone that likes to go for tuition. Moreover, secretly I wanted to redeem the full refund just because I didn’t want to spend money on tuition. But I was astonished after that lesson as your teaching style was exactly what I needed and I have never been clearer for any other topic in Chemistry no matter. So for the refunding part, my dignity prevented me from even asking because I felt that you were really that good. If you taught in a JC, I’m sure you’d be the top lecturer.

As for the impact on us students, you give us hope! We all have dreams, and mine is to become a Doctor. To achieve that dream, I needed straight A’s and if not for your help, I would not have been able to even fathom that possibility. A very dedicated teacher indeed! It surprises me how well he remembers all our names, even though there are so many of us! 🙂 Helpful and extremely knowledgeable, William’s worksheets and tutorials never fail to challenge us and activate your interests in the subject. It is of no doubt that William can be counted on to help achieve the grades you want. Because he explains concepts in an understandable yet precise way, without missing out on any small details. The tutors at MS both William and Kelvin are very experienced and they take the time to explain certain concepts that students usually overlook and delve deeper into the logic of certain concepts for students to grasp a greater understanding of the subject as a whole. Mr Alex is a dedicated tutor who is passionate about Chemistry and tries his best to answer doubts/queries even outside of class. He is also very aware of his students’ weaknesses/strengths, altering his teaching style to suit their needs.

Miss Kelly is a very patient and caring chemistry teacher who makes sure that the class understand the concept before moving on. She will also test us using similar questions of the same concept to check our understanding. Bubbly and compassionate, she livens up the class spirit and my stress level always falls whenever I’m attending her class. The well-organised, systematic class is at a suitable pace and easy to follow. I am never afraid to ask questions as she is nice and understanding. During class she will ensure that short breaks are given which makes me feel more refreshed. Her classes are enjoyable all the time 🙂

I have been to much tuition and learnt from many tutors in other centres for other subjects but there is honestly no one quite like you, I truly believe that you are one of the best, if not the best tutor out there. Mr Alex is a capable teacher who is able to teach students based on their potential and constantly tries to help them improve in their answering techniques. Hi William! I’m really glad that I decided to join your tuition when I entered J2, you have no idea how much you have helped me. My grade for Chemistry has improved tremendously and a lot of credit goes to you. Apart from that I really enjoyed your lessons, seeing how much effort you have put into each lesson, trying to keep us entertained with interesting stories. Coming into tuition in mid-JC 1 after CT 1, I had practically zero understanding of Chemistry and all its related concepts. With teachers telling us things were only going to get tougher, I decided to seek help and today I’m glad I joined William’s class. Engaging, intelligent and most of all, highly approachable, William was quick to help me clarify any doubts I had regarding foundation concepts. Post CT 1 topics were also taught with emphasis on fundamental understanding, helping me nail my A in promos in 2011.

In JC 2, my biggest fear was Organic Chemistry after seeing the sheer scope that was to be covered. However, William made it incredibly easy to understand and through his help, my biggest fear probably is my biggest source of confidence today. His lessons are so fun and interesting that no one ever falls asleep in his class.

I managed to achieved an ‘A’ grade in my A level examination and what i can say for certain is without William’s help, I would be far off from where I am today in terms of knowledge and appreciation of Chemistry. Thank you William!

What can I say about William? He is certainly the best tutor. My friends and I are blessed to be under his guidance. Without him, we would be lost, with zero confidence and would definitely fail horribly in our A’ Levels. Going for his lessons are enjoyable. He made me appreciate the subject and provided me with the motivation to burn the midnight oil to make up for the laziness in JC1. Yes, the final lap of the A’ Level preparation is the toughest, but with William around, you can count on him to make sure that you know Every Blade Of Grass, inside out!!!

Ms Kelly’s lessons are engaging as she tries to ask everyone questions which keeps me thinking actively. She is also very open to any question and her explanations are crystal-clear. Her patience is unmatched as she explains many times when the class could not understand a concept, especially in chemistry bonding which was exceptionally hard at the start. Ms Chua is one of the most approachable and friendly teacher and I’m very happy to have had her as my chemistry teacher!!

I remember I first heard about you from my classmates and all they said were, “William is godly”. At that point in time, I was still wondering if what they say is really true or they were just exaggerating. But soon after joining your class, I was just like them, going around telling people that “William is really godly” 🙂

I can’t express my gratitude towards you enough because you really made me come to like Chemistry a lot. I also don’t have many teachers that I really like and respect but I really respect you from the bottom of my heart! You can make all the Chemistry concepts so easy to understand and remember, I really do owe my good grades in Chemistry to you. Making Sense is arguably the best (and most value for money) chemistry tuition in Singapore! The notes given to us were extremely concise and help us prepare well for exams. Not only that, Mr William and Mr Kelvin (A level Chemistry Tutors) are extremely competent and passionate about what they teach, making lessons a lot more enjoyable and engaging. My chemistry grades have improved significantly after joining Making Sense and I am really thankful. 🙂

What sets William apart from other teachers is the fact that his explanations are always clear. His lessons are very well structured and he makes an effort to answer all of his students’ questions if he can. In fact, i have never seen him rejecting questions from students.He explains complicated things in a simple way, just like the tuition centre’s name suggests, ‘making sense’ out of Chemistry and allowing us to thoroughly understand the topics in an efficient and easy manner. He is a responsible teacher as well and does not tell his students to merely ‘take things as it is’, which is something many teachers i have met like to say.

I am fortunate enough to have been taught by him and my only regret is that i should have known him earlier.

Mr Alex is patient in analysing my mistakes and never fails to highlight key points in the answers. He identifies areas which I am weak in and works to help me improve these areas. Ms Kelly is always well-organised and I enjoyed going to her fun classes. I really appreciate the chill environment during her classes (never experienced that before), and this helped me to absorb information more efficiently. I learnt a lot as her lessons are easy to digest and she will ask many questions to check the classes’ understanding after her explanation. It has been a pleasure of mine to have you for as tutor for the past few months leading up to the big A’s. For all of my O-level years and up to J1, I had been surviving OK on my own without tuition but the U grade for Mid Year was a huge wake up call for me. William is a really nice and caring teacher and what inspired me the most, and also sparked (or reignited) my interested in Chemistry is his passion for that subject). His passion really made me see the subject from a more interesting and refreshing perspective, and reinforces our learning from school, and inspired me to work harder because I like Chemistry now! 

Even if I don’t do as well as I had hoped, I see an improvement in my grades and quality of answers and also in my learning attitude towards this subject.

It’s been such a whirlwind of a year, and I really don’t know how to put all my feelings into words, as they will never do justice to the gratitude I have for being in your class.

Before attending your classes, Chemistry just felt like a black void of things I will never understand. Those school lectures I find so hard to stay awake and listen to, and the pile of tutorials that kept snowballing – it was almost impossible for me to even understand Chemistry, but all that changed after joining Making Sense. Thank you for making everything so easy and interesting to understanding and sharing with us all your lame yet funny stories during lessons to keep us awake after a long day at school. Thank you for the effort you’ve put into the notes and tutorials to make sure we understand what Chemistry is about rather than plain memorizing. Thank you for making study less painful and even interesting, while I can say for sure that I’m never touching Chemistry again, it is however a subject that I can look back on with fond memories. What I am most grateful for are your encouraging words and belief in us that we’ll all do well. I wasn’t doing well in school, and while all my tutors claim I will never be able to get an A for A Levels, you told me you believed that I would do it. Your words were definitely uplifting and I didn’t feel like giving up on myself.

The day before the Chemistry A Level Paper, I started panicking, thinking what if I didn’t do well? What if I wasted those one and a half years in your class on this one final paper? I was really worried, but I believed what you said – that we (students of Making Sense) are very well prepared are well ahead of the bell curve based on our efforts throughout the year, and I persevered. I am really glad to say I didn’t waste those efforts and it was the best Chemistry paper I’ve ever done. Thank you so much for having taught me since J1. I realized I’m one of the culprits for your “endless consultations”, so sorry! But overall, I have learnt so much from you. Lessons with you is never a mere repetition of school lectures, each lesson never failed to surprise me with new snippets of information and knowledge I probably never would have acquired had I not joined your class. William, you’re the best chemistry teacher I had so far, with your short anecdotes and jokes, analogies for complex chemistry concepts and the endless patience you had while answering all my endless questions, I will never forget you!

All credit goes to William for changing my perception of Chemistry. I still remember the days when I felt lost every lesson, unable to keep up with tutorials in school. Then, I started tuition with William. Chemistry went from being my greatest source of worry to the subject that I had the most confidence in.

His clear explanations and concise notes were a welcome departure from the ineffective mass lectures and unorganised handouts I was receiving in school. The painstakingly compiled tutorial questions given to us at the end of every topic reinforced our learning. William also made it a point to bring out the essential points for the various topics and caution us of the common mistakes, helping to strengthen our understanding of the concepts. William has built for himself a good reputation amongst all the JCs in Singapore. I remember getting back my March Common Test results and fretting about my fate for the A’ Levels later in the year. All around me, those who did well thanked William, while my friend told me to just “try it (tuition) out”

I’ve never once regretted signing up for Making Sense. Even though my results may not have been stellar, but for once in my 2 years of JC, I understand Chemistry concepts really clearly. The whole ‘legend’ about William being good at organic chemistry is not merely a myth – you just have to sit in at his lessons and experience it for yourself. Chemistry has always been the bane of my existence and Organic Chemistry was a huge turnoff for me. However, after I attended the very first lesson at Making Sense, I learnt 2 things.

Firstly, I realized that William is indeed a super caring teacher, as he took the time off to teach me individually which made me feel comfortable for my first lesson. Next, he opened my eyes to the concept of Nucleophile attacking Electrophile which really helped me a lot when I approached Organic Chemistry questions. Furthermore, the notes that Making Sense offer is always concise and full of helpful guidelines, it also has good tips for tackling various questions.

I truly enjoy every lesson at Making Sense as there’s always something new that I can take away. Lecture/Tutorial settings for lessons allow me to indirectly revisit various topics twice and to have a greater grasp of challenging questions. Also, towards the final weeks of Prelim examinations, Making Sense offers an intense drilling exercise for all its students which really helped me benefit from the various challenging papers that William provides us with.

In conclusion, Making Sense is worth every moment of my time and effort. William’s guidance gave me better clarity and confidence despite my failing grades and Making Sense certainly does live up to its name of being the best Chemistry tuition in SG.

In my opinion, what truly distinguished William’s lessons apart from others was his passion for teaching and enrichment. Junior College Chemistry is no easy feat, but William imparted his knowledge in a manner that was lighthearted and inspirational. Often I found myself doing his tutorials instead of school homework because it felt much more effective and useful than the standard fare. His “know your basics” worksheets really trained my fundamentals, something I feel lacking in the fast pace of school academics and allowed me to tackle tougher questions in the examinations.

In a syllabus where much memory work was required, William taught us easy-to-remember techniques that were catchy and interesting, achieving productivity as well as some relaxing laughs. Such opportunities offered me a chance to recharge and absorb more from his lessons. Even long after class, he would stay back and help out with any questions from the students to improve their understanding.

Nearing the exams, he would ensure that the weaker students did practice outside of tuition and marked their work as a form of responsibility. Even though this meant extra workload, he still did it willingly, which was something that earned my utmost respect. His lesson is something I would highly recommend to any JC student struggling to cope with chemistry. His unique teaching methodology transformed my perception of chemistry as a dry and dull subject to a fascinating one.

William has been an exceptional educator guiding me for 1.5 years. During this 1.5 years, he has displayed patience and competence, distinguishing William from any of my teachers I have seen in my college years. To me, the one value that really makes him such a special teacher is his 100% commitment to his students. He has a few hundreds of students, yet he knows the strengths and weaknesses of almost all his students, replies to our messages without fail even late at night, stays back late to give us consultations- just a few things that makes William a born educator. That is not all, in terms of teaching, William is exceptional too. He just has that ability to make Chemistry seem simple, any of his past students can attest to that. Furthermore, his notes and questions given are of the highest quality. His materials always aptly prepare us for tough questions that schools and Cambridge like to ask.

On a whole, William is truly an asset to any JC kid taking Chemistry because he is able to make Chemistry so simple and also boosting students’ confidence along the way. As his student for 1.5 years, and as a junior of numerous seniors who were taught by William, I would really recommend William to any JC kid as they will truly breeze through Chemistry. If you find Chemistry daunting, look for William, it is that simple!

For me, Confidence and Courage were not the words to be associated with Chemistry then. It was demoralizing to not reap the results despite all the effort put in.

William’s tutoring just proved that memorizing wasn’t the way to go. With his patient explanations, I actually UNDERSTOOD the rationals behind formulas and answers, and I was actually interested in Chemistry! Despite receiving a D during the Prelims, though worried, at the back of my head, I was confident that with his intensive practice, I would eventually fare better. And I did! In fact, the best in my entire JC life. Thanks William, for giving me the confidence and courage to face Chemistry, and making the Straight A-s I achieved, possible.

Before I met you William, I had absolutely no interest whatsoever in Chemistry. I couldn’t understand how people could actually do worksheets and understand anything related to Chemistry. I was genuinely, hopelessly, lost. After I joined your tuition, everything changed. The painfully concise notes that are easy to read and understand, long notes from school were immediately replaced by your tutorials and notes. Your effort is very clear in the way you are so patient in addressing doubts, explaining again when I didn’t get it.

Apart from academics and all the technical things, you are really one of the best person I’ve ever met. You stayed back till late to hear me out and guided me through my journey. I really hope I can do well as an appreciation for the time and effort you’ve put into teaching us. Really want to thank you for allowing me to regain confidence in Chemistry and not think it is a scary subject anymore. All the best in your career and family and many many thanks!

Mr William has been a very kind, patient, and passionate teacher, who has a strong grasp in his knowledge for chemistry.

I first joined his lessons halfway through year 6, holding on to the belief that it was too late to seek for help, where I was still scoring Us for chemistry. However, I was proven wrong. Shortly after starting tuition, I started to pass chemistry tests. This was, of course, much thanks to Mr William’s help. He was patient with me, despite my endless queries. After lessons, he always stays back without complaint to help us with our work, doing more than he is required.

The organic chemistry crash course was the most useful out of all of his lessons. Mr William skillfully explains the intricacies of organic chemistry, while ensuring that the lesson stays fun and interesting. After attending the crash course, I had a stronger grasp for organic chemistry, and I knew the key things to memorize instead of being lost in the sea of information. Furthermore, his explanations are clear and easy to comprehend.

Mr William’s teaching is reinforced by his caring and fun personality, from his random chemistry jokes to making conversations with his students. He makes chemistry bearable, and almost fun. He has been a great help with my chemistry, and I definitely owe my A grade to him. I am very grateful for his guidance, and would certainly recommend him as a chemistry tutor.

William’s lessons are really well-segmented and in all honesty, my mind has not drifted away ninety-nine percent of the time. The way he allocates time for each activity and then rewarding breaks in between -albeit trivial-it keeps people like me with short attention spans awake and keeps my mind activated.

Also, his detailed worked solutions for the “push-list”are indeed useful in helping me to clear my own doubts. Thanks a lot!!  Your passion for teaching chemistry has made me (and i am sure other students too) really enjoy learning Chemistry.

William is one of the most dedicated and capable teachers I’ve met. He never fails to deliver effective lessons which tackle the essence of each Chemistry topic, and all his notes are really in-depth yet concise. Before going for his tuition, I thought Organic Chemistry was all about memorizing and so I didn’t really comprehend the mechanisms, but after attending William’s lessons, I’ve learnt so much more and achieved a much deeper understanding and appreciation for Organic Chemistry mechanisms.

William is really effective in simplifying complicated concepts for us to absorb more easily. More importantly, he is really committed, as can be seen from how he works out solutions to topical MCQ questions manually and uploads them on his website for students to download and this has helped me a lot in my revision. William also encourages us to arrange for consultations and ask questions whenever in doubt. Consultations with him have been really productive and I’ve learnt so much more. Last but not least, he’s super encouraging and always motivates us to work harder and my Chemistry has definitely improved tremendously under his guidance!

Hi William! Just wanted to thank you for being extremely patient with me and always answering my many many questions. And also for constantly encouraging me! All along I had thought my Chemistry wasn’t too bad, but when I got a D for CT2, I was really shocked and wondered if all this time I had overestimated myself, and I started to doubt myself. But you always encouraged me and told me that my Chem was alright, so you really saved my confidence as well 

The way you teach also makes it easier for learning because its very clear and straight forward. And I also think its good that you are able to cater to students of different learning abilities, which is difficult for our school teachers to do.

Most of all, I want to thank you for all the effort that you have invested, because you really really did give us alot of yourself. I am really grateful that you try to get us the best material and prepare so much for every lesson. I greatly respect any teacher who is so dedicated to his / her students, and is genuinely passionate about their job. It is difficult to come across such teachers anymore, so I’m glad I found one 

Now that A’s is over, take a super long well deserved break, coz next year you gotta start doing the same crazy thing for your students again! We work hard for one year, and then its over, But you have to do it every year! And honestly I think you work harder than some of us haha. But don’t stop what you are doing, because honestly you are saving many students and many of them more in the years to come! I hope that every year your students will do you proud, and do the best that they can and leave no regrets. Thank you for all that you have done, you deserve an A* ! 

Before coming for tuition, I never ever got anything above an E for any major exam (mid years, terms, promos, the like). I somehow just couldn’t grasp the concepts behind the various chem topics. Due to personal commitments previously, I started tuition late. But within the short span of four months, William managed to pull my grades up to a C for my prelims!!! 

He puts things into a different perspective, making them easier to understand. Also, he has very organised notes which definitely helps make the studying process more efficient and pleasant. 

Thanks William! If I get an A, it’s thanks to you. If I don’t, it’s thanks to my carelessness (and stupidity for changing question at the last minute for paper 3) But all that aside, thank you!!!
