Best Results in A and O Level Chemistry

Hear from our students!

“I have never regretted joining Making Sense, where the welfare of students has always been their top priority. Their devotion to add value to students’ learning and their sincerity in teaching really brings out the best in each student.”

Ho Xuen Huei

Dunman High School

I joined Making Sense right from the start in J1, and Chemistry has not been a problem for me ever since. As the tutors never fail to deliver content in an engaging and dynamic manner, I really looked forward to attending my lessons weekly, albeit Chemistry being an extremely content-heavy and a seemingly dry subject. The lessons are also very application-based which honed my skills to apply learnt concepts to tackle tough questions, giving me the confidence booster that I very much needed. I am also very thankful for the after-class support, where tutors are willing to go well above and beyond outside of lessons to answer all my queries, allowing me to have a better grasp of certain concepts. I have never regretted joining Making Sense, where the welfare of students has always been their top priority. Their devotion to add value to students’ learning and their sincerity in teaching really brings out the best in each student.

“The teaching approach here focuses on higher-level thinking by challenging us with application questions which helped me to improve my results. Within a term, I was able to improve from failing to topping the class!”

Chen Kang Xiang

Raffles Institution

Joining Making Sense was the best decision I could ever make to improve my Chemistry results! The lessons here are engaging and I look forward to coming for every lesson. The teaching approach here focuses on higher-level thinking by challenging us with application questions which helped me to improve my results. Within a term, I was able to improve from failing to topping the class! Thank you Making Sense!

“After joining Making Sense for a few months, I was able to understand and grasp concepts quite well as they not only provided me with past year questions, but also questions curated from a selection of other schools.”

Clara Lau

Jurong Pioneer Junior College

Before joining Making Sense, I couldn’t keep up with lessons in school, and I felt very lost after tutorials. However, after joining Making Sense for a few months, I was able to understand and grasp concepts quite well as they not only provided me with past year questions, but also questions curated from a selection of other schools. They pick questions of higher calibre so as to challenge students’ understanding of chemistry knowledge and are patient at going through the questions with me.

Nearing A level period, Making Sense Chemistry even boosted the number of lessons per week so that I can use the time in class to revise on concepts and to iron out my misunderstandings. This helps to reduce the extra revision time for chemistry outside of class and allows me to spend more time on other subjects that I am weaker in. They even have a telegram group chat that can answer my questions outside of class and I feel that it is especially useful for my revision. I also feel that the 1 hour 45 minute class time is just right for me, because teachers are able to cover the necessary information without overloading me with too much new information.

“ Within one lesson, the teacher can cover a summary of the previous lessons, new content and even practice questions on the new content we learnt.”

Long Wei Lin

Victoria Junior College

One thing I love about Making Sense is how structured the lessons are. Within one lesson, the teacher can cover a summary of the previous lessons, new content and even practice questions on the new content we learnt. To me, it was extremely effective because it allows me to recall what we have learnt the previous week and also ensure that the new content we have learnt is applied immediately into questions. Furthermore, joining Making Sense allowed me to cut down the amount of time spent on revising so that I can head straight to doing practice questions and examination papers. Just by attending a class every week, it helps me clear up doubts and questions I have on a specific topic after I have learnt it in school because concepts can be quite difficult to grasp in JC. Making Sense challenges us with many integrated questions which are more common in papers in recent years. It prepares me for the variety of questions I can face in exams so that i would know how to tackle them.

“From their concise notes, array of application questions challenging you to go above and beyond, to the team of excellent teachers clearly committed to helping you every step of the way, Making Sense was definitely the saving balm of my JC life.”

Chan Jin Kai

Dunman High School

I still remember the first ever lesson I had with Making Sense – during that time I was absolutely clueless about organic chemistry, but the way they broke down the key concepts of the topic and linked each component seamlessly, changed the way I viewed chemistry forever, from a subject I was contented with just passing to one that I could top my class with.

The thing about Making Sense is that during lessons, they take the time to let you understand, and not just simply memorise. From their concise notes, array of application questions challenging you to go above and beyond, to the team of excellent teachers clearly committed to helping you every step of the way, Making Sense was definitely the saving balm of my JC life.

With Making Sense, I could trust that they would take care of my chemistry for me, so that I could focus on the rest of my subjects. I honestly do not think you can get this value elsewhere.

“The feedback provided by the teachers when they review our papers at the end of each examination is also very detailed. They would analyse our weaker and stronger topics as well as our proficiency in the different skills such as recall and application.”

Glynis Lim

National Junior College

What I really like about Making Sense is the fact that the teachers always take the effort to get to know each of their students personally, be it small catch ups before lessons start or after answering our questions at the end of class. After attending lessons at Making Sense, I am better able to take on more challenging questions with less anxiety. I went from completely not knowing where to start to being able to handle such questions with confidence. The materials given during class covers a wide range of questions, from basic, must-know questions to set our foundation to carefully chosen higher order questions to push us further. Each question always had a learning point for us, either small tips and tricks or a new approach for the unseen question.

Apart from the materials given, the feedback provided by the teachers when they review our papers at the end of each examination is also very detailed. They would analyse our weaker and stronger topics as well as our proficiency in the different skills such as recall and application. After the feedback, I’m always clearer on how I should continue with my revision and the specific areas I should work on. This really helped me in setting aside more time for other subjects as I’m able to optimise my study sessions to focus on my weaker areas as compared to simply repeating the entire syllabus. Thank you, MS, for making a difference in my journey with Chemistry!

“Joining Making Sense is easily one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I was blown away in that one lesson by the ease in which you helped us to realise concepts, link topics together and remember things. I think it’s safe to say that if you lectured in a school, no one would be skipping lectures ever again.”

Felix Tseng

I still remember my first lesson: a crash course on Chemical Kinetics. As I’ve never taken tuition before, I was really very worried; would this be a waste of time and money? What if I still don’t understand anything? Most of all, my pride couldn’t accept the fact that I needed tuition just to do well for A levels. However, I was blown away in that one lesson by the ease in which you helped us to realise concepts, link topics together and remember things. I think it’s safe to say that if you lectured in a school, no one would be skipping lectures ever again. Concepts which eluded me for more than a year were suddenly debunked. For anyone who thinks that tuition is just a second school lecture to refresh our memories and thousands of drill questions, maybe they are right, but that is definitely not William’s lessons. He has redefined the idea of tuition for me.

It is inspiring to witness the joy with which you teach your students, and how you add in lame but very funny jokes. The small gestures you do like asking us individually “How’s prelims?” or remembering every single one of us by our name or by teaching continuously for more than 12 hours a day and sacrificing health just for us, will not be forgotten. With that, thank you so much. I’d definitely recommend Making Sense to all my juniors.

“ The impact you have made in my life was tremendous. I used to be someone who dislike tuition, but I was astonished that after the first lesson, I realised your teaching style was exactly what I needed and I have never felt that clearer before. If you taught in a JC, I’m sure you’d be the top lecturer.”

Julian Low

National Junior College

I was only under you for half a year but I can assure you, the impact you have made in my life was tremendous. I first joined your class during the Kinetics Crash Course just to accompany a friend, with no intention of joining the tuition mostly because I’m not someone that likes to go for tuition. Moreover, secretly I wanted to redeem the full refund just because I didn’t want to spend money on tuition. But I was astonished after that lesson as your teaching style was exactly what I needed and I have never been clearer for any other topic in Chemistry no matter. So for the refunding part, my dignity prevented me from even asking because I felt that you were really that good. If you taught in a JC, I’m sure you’d be the top lecturer.

As for the impact on us students, you give us hope! We all have dreams, and mine is to become a Doctor. To achieve that dream, I needed straight A’s and if not for your help, I would not have been able to even fathom that possibility. You’ve changed our lives and if we are fortunate enough to succeed in our future endeavours, we have you to thank for supporting us in our journey. If we happen to cross paths again in the future, I’d be delighted to have a chat or coffee. Thank you again William for everything and I wish you all the best for everything

“Extremely knowledgeable.”

Felix Yeoh

Raffles Junior College

A very dedicated teacher indeed! It surprises me how well he remembers all our names, even though there are so many of us! 🙂 Helpful and extremely knowledgeable, William’s worksheets and tutorials never fail to challenge us and activate your interests in the subject. It is of no doubt that William can be counted on to help achieve the grades you want. Because he explains concepts in an understandable yet precise way, without missing out on any small details. Furthermore, I can tell how much effort he puts into teaching us, working through day and night, sometimes even neglecting his own health.

I will never forget the cue thing he said to us during one of his lesson, “Leave Chemistry to me, go study for other subjects” Indubitably this gave me alot of confidence and serenity, and I thank him for that from the bottom of my heart. Strive on teaching, William!

The tutors at MS both William and Kelvin are very experienced and they take the time to explain certain concepts that students usually overlook and delve deeper into the logic of certain concepts for students to grasp a greater understanding of the subject as a whole. If you truly want to improve your grades and understand chem in a whole new light, joining MS is a must

Miss Kelly is a very patient and caring chemistry teacher who makes sure that the class understand the concept before moving on. She will also test us using similar questions of the same concept to check our understanding. Bubbly and compassionate, she livens up the class spirit and my stress level always falls whenever I’m attending her class. The well-organised, systematic class is at a suitable pace and easy to follow. I am never afraid to ask questions as she is nice and understanding. During class she will ensure that short breaks are given which makes me feel more refreshed. Her classes are enjoyable all the time 🙂

“ My utmost gratitude for the effort and time you invested in all your students. ”

Koh Zhi Ming

Dunman High School

I would really like to take this opportunity to express my utmost gratitude for the effort and time you invested in all your students.

I have been to much tuition and learnt from many tutors in other centres for other subjects but there is honestly no one quite like you, I truly believe that you are one of the best, if not the best tutor out there. The reason why I say that is definitely not solely because you teach very well and write wonderful, detailed notes. It is also because you focus on the intangible gains like establishing connections with your students, always being very approachable which really helps when I have doubts to clear. I even know of tuition teachers who are unwilling to share their contact information to protect their private life, but you don’t. I am really touched and impressed by your dedication and I can really feel that there is a genuine care and concern for every one of your students, which is much easier said than done I’m sure. I often proudly boast to my peers that I am a student from Making Sense, not because it makes me superior in any way, but because I genuinely feel that I am extremely lucky to be learning from a knowledgeable, approachable, caring and dedicated teacher like you, which beats any of the classes I’ve attended the past two years. Thank you! 🙂

I’m really glad that I’m given this opportunity to express my gratitude for you and I hope that this can motivate you when you’re tired. Lastly, here’s wishing you the best of luck for the next few lucky batches that you teach, I’m sure you’ll continue to inspire!

Mr Alex is a capable teacher who is able to teach students based on their potential and constantly tries to help them improve in their answering techniques. The skills he has taught has also helped me to absorb information more efficiently. Alex is also approachable and encouraging. He is understanding and has encouraged me when I am feeling disheartened about my studies.

“Keep up with everything that you’re doing, you’re doing a really great job!”

Reena Sim

Dunman High School

Hi William! I’m really glad that I decided to join your tuition when I entered J2, you have no idea how much you have helped me. My grade for Chemistry has improved tremendously and a lot of credit goes to you. Apart from that I really enjoyed your lessons, seeing how much effort you have put into each lesson, trying to keep us entertained with interesting stories. I really hope I will be able to do you proud for A Levels. Keep up with everything that you’re doing, you’re doing a really great job! Many students really look up to you and enjoy your tuition lessons. It’s rare that students like tuition.

“Engaging, intelligent and highly approachable, William is quick to help me clarify any doubts that I had. His lessons are so fun and engaging that no one ever falls asleep in his class. Thanks to him, I managed to achieved an ‘A’ grade in my A level examination.”

Daryl Cheng Zi Chen

Raffles Junior College

Coming into tuition in mid-JC 1 after CT 1, I had practically zero understanding of Chemistry and all its related concepts. With teachers telling us things were only going to get tougher, I decided to seek help and today I’m glad I joined William’s class. Engaging, intelligent and most of all, highly approachable, William was quick to help me clarify any doubts I had regarding foundation concepts. Post CT 1 topics were also taught with emphasis on fundamental understanding, helping me nail my A in promos in 2011.

In JC 2, my biggest fear was Organic Chemistry after seeing the sheer scope that was to be covered. However, William made it incredibly easy to understand and through his help, my biggest fear probably is my biggest source of confidence today. His lessons are so fun and interesting that no one ever falls asleep in his class.

I managed to achieved an ‘A’ grade in my A level examination and what i can say for certain is without William’s help, I would be far off from where I am today in terms of knowledge and appreciation of Chemistry. Thank you William!

“He is certainly the best tutor.”

Ho Zheng Yi

Victoria Junior College

What can I say about William? He is certainly the best tutor. My friends and I are blessed to be under his guidance. Without him, we would be lost, with zero confidence and would definitely fail horribly in our A’ Levels. Going for his lessons are enjoyable. He made me appreciate the subject and provided me with the motivation to burn the midnight oil to make up for the laziness in JC1. Yes, the final lap of the A’ Level preparation is the toughest, but with William around, you can count on him to make sure that you know Every Blade Of Grass, inside out!!!

Any regrets? Yes! That i did not start lesson with him right from JC 1!

Ms Kelly’s lessons are engaging as she tries to ask everyone questions which keeps me thinking actively. She is also very open to any question and her explanations are crystal-clear. Her patience is unmatched as she explains many times when the class could not understand a concept, especially in chemistry bonding which was exceptionally hard at the start. Ms Chua is one of the most approachable and friendly teacher and I’m very happy to have had her as my chemistry teacher!!

“I remember I first heard about you from my classmates and all they said were, “William is godly”. I can’t express my gratitude towards you enough because you really made me come to like Chemistry a lot. I also don’t have many teachers that I really like and respect but I really respect you from the bottom of my heart! You can make all the Chemistry concepts so easy to understand and remember, I really do owe my good grades in Chemistry to you. Thank you for all the time and effort you’ve put in for all of us, all the encouragements, stories and jokes, all the awesome teachings and lesson materials, you’re really one of the best teachers I’ve ever met. I have no idea how you can remember all our names so effortlessly but all of us are really touched by the effort you put into remembering all of us and teaching all of us!

Making Sense is definitely Singapore’s Top and Best A Level Chemistry Tuition, and it’ll forever be, at least to all of us 🙂

“”

Sammi Lim

Making Sense is arguably the best (and most value for money) chemistry tuition in Singapore! The notes given to us were extremely concise and help us prepare well for exams. Not only that, Mr William and Mr Kelvin (A level Chemistry Tutors) are extremely competent and passionate about what they teach, making lessons a lot more enjoyable and engaging. My chemistry grades have improved significantly after joining Making Sense and I am really thankful. 🙂

“His lessons are very well structured and he makes an effort to answer all of his students’ questions if he can”

Chang Wei

Dunman High School

What sets William apart from other teachers is the fact that his explanations are always clear. His lessons are very well structured and he makes an effort to answer all of his students’ questions if he can. In fact, i have never seen him rejecting questions from students. He explains complicated things in a simple way, just like the tuition centre’s name suggests, ‘making sense’ out of Chemistry and allowing us to thoroughly understand the topics in an efficient and easy manner. He is a responsible teacher as well and does not tell his students to merely ‘take things as it is’, which is something many teachers i have met like to say.

I am fortunate enough to have been taught by him and my only regret is that i should have known him earlier.

William is one impressive teacher who helped me greatly for my A’ Levels Chemistry. His dedication to teaching is evident in how he made us understand the concepts clearly for us to better appreciate the subject. My grades for Chemistry improved all thanks to him! Ms Kelly is always well-organised and I enjoyed going to her fun classes. I really appreciate the chill environment during her classes (never experienced that before), and this helped me to absorb information more efficiently. I learnt a lot as her lessons are easy to digest and she will ask many questions to check the classes’ understanding after her explanation. I am also grateful that she is very patient when clarifying our doubts and she provides effective exam tips.

“It has been a pleasure of mine to have you for as tutor for the past few months leading up to the big A’s.”

Hoang Nam Phuong

Anglo Chinese Junior College

It has been a pleasure of mine to have you for as tutor for the past few months leading up to the big A’s. For all of my O-level years and up to J1, I had been surviving OK on my own without tuition but the U grade for Mid Year was a huge wake up call for me. It caused me to seek help out of sheer desperation. I took a leap of faith, with only the good words of students on Making Sense website to guide me on.

Thank you for staying true to all the good things that have been said about you. They said you know your stuff at a deep level. You do. They say you make every concept that much easier with your clear explanation. You do. They said you were passionate about the subject. I have never seen anyone deliver Chemistry lessons with more verve and dedication, I can only wonder at how you are able to repeat the same lesson throughout a week without losing that strength of enthusiasm on any day.  And they said you make lame Chemistry jokes, that too you have proved true, which made me think at one point “What did I get myself into?” Haha! But looking back, your jokes, albeit “lame and nonsensical”, made the stress of A Levels slightly more bearable, which is exactly what a good teacher should strive to do if he could :)

What I appreciate the most about you though, is how patient, how motivated you are in getting a difficult concept across when I didn’t understand it yet, how you always make sure to respond to every question even though you’re probably inundated with tons of them every day. I’m happy to congratulate you again on your receipt of the Prestige Award. It is no less a compliment to your talent, sustained hard work and integrity as it is to the selection committee’s keen judgement in choosing Making Sense for an awarde. Thank you for giving your students the best, in word and in deed.

“His passion really made me see the subject from a more interesting and refreshing perspective.”

Annabella Teo

St Andrew’s Junior College

William is a really nice and caring teacher and what inspired me the most, and also sparked (or reignited) my interested in Chemistry is his passion for that subject). His passion really made me see the subject from a more interesting and refreshing perspective, and reinforces our learning from school, and inspired me to work harder because I like Chemistry now! :)

Even if I don’t do as well as I had hoped, I see an improvement in my grades and quality of answers and also in my learning attitude towards this subject.

William was one of the teachers that made a difference in my life, especially in JC, and I’m glad I made that phone call! Thank you William! :)

“He makes Chemistry seem alive and more than mere chemical components by treating them as ‘people’!”

Khoo Chi En

Anderson Junior College

Like many have also said, William could let us understand the cruz of each topic in Chemistry easily. Very easily, he explains to us the fundamentals and makes sure we get the hag of it, e.g. ‘nucleophile always looks for electrophile’, before we advance to higher-order thinking questions. Furthermore, he makes Chemistry seem alive and more than mere chemical components by treating them as ‘people’! This helps in making us understand why there are certain methods to proceed on with the questions. Maybe it is a pity i only joined Making Sense in mid 2012. Nonetheless, it has been all worthwhile as each lesson, i see myself learning new things. Thank you William! =P

“Thank you for inspiring us, going beyond what a teacher normally does.”

Genevieve See

Dunman High School

It’s been such a whirlwind of a year, and I really don’t know how to put all my feelings into words, as they will never do justice to the gratitude I have for being in your class.

Before attending your classes, Chemistry just felt like a black void of things I will never understand. Those school lectures I find so hard to stay awake and listen to, and the pile of tutorials that kept snowballing – it was almost impossible for me to even understand Chemistry, but all that changed after joining Making Sense. Thank you for making everything so easy and interesting to understanding and sharing with us all your lame yet funny stories during lessons to keep us awake after a long day at school. Thank you for the effort you’ve put into the notes and tutorials to make sure we understand what Chemistry is about rather than plain memorizing. Thank you for making study less painful and even interesting, while I can say for sure that I’m never touching Chemistry again, it is however a subject that I can look back on with fond memories. What I am most grateful for are your encouraging words and belief in us that we’ll all do well. I wasn’t doing well in school, and while all my tutors claim I will never be able to get an A for A Levels, you told me you believed that I would do it. Your words were definitely uplifting and I didn’t feel like giving up on myself.

The day before the Chemistry A Level Paper, I started panicking, thinking what if I didn’t do well? What if I wasted those one and a half years in your class on this one final paper? I was really worried, but I believed what you said – that we (students of Making Sense) are very well prepared are well ahead of the bell curve based on our efforts throughout the year, and I persevered. I am really glad to say I didn’t waste those efforts and it was the best Chemistry paper I’ve ever done. It’s nowhere near perfect, but I do hope my name will get to your A-list next year 🙂 Thank you for inspiring us, going beyond what a teacher normally does. Keep doing what you do, you are doing a great job! Don’t forget us, your 2014 batch! And thank you for everything! :)

Mr Alex is a dedicated tutor who definitely has the capabilities to help any student reach greater heights. Equipped with knowledge even beyond the Chemistry syllabus, he is able to teach concepts and enable students to understand their work very well. With him as the tutor, one would definitely notice considerable improvements in their examinations.

“The Chemistry tuition has really helped me a lot and made me more confident about Chemistry.”

Zhu Yuning

River Valley High School

The Chemistry tuition has really helped me a lot and made me more confident about Chemistry. During the revision period leading up to the A-levels, the extra revision lectures were concise and effective in helping me to refresh my memory. Also, being on the ‘push-list’ also made me more disciplined as I had to complete prelim papers every week. The thing that helped me the most are carefully explained answers, even for MCQs, something that school teachers may not have the time for. Chemistry was previously my weakest subject, having score an S in mid-years, yet during my prelims, i managed to score a B, all thanks to William. I will definitely recommend him to my juniors! Thanks.

“You are one of the most caring, fun and best teachers i have ever had.”

Royston Raymond

Raffles Junior College

Dear William, thank you for everything you have done for me, I really appreciate it. You helped me find my love for Chemistry which I thought i never had. At first, I was quite reluctant to go for group tuitions because i never had tuition as a group before. But after attending your lesson, I felt comfortable right away, and i could understand the things that were taught. Lessons are really fun because of your occasional stories and these helped me concentrate longer in class. Thanks also for helping me individually after class. You have helped me in many ways and I really cannot thank you enough. You are one of the most caring, fun and best teachers i have ever had. Definitely going to recommend my friends to you. Thank you again sir! Cheers!

“Lessons here are not a mere repetition of school lectures. I have learnt so much more at Making Sense. Each lesson never failed to surprise me with new snippets of information and knowledge. I always found Chemistry to be interesting, insightful and funny whenever you taught complex concepts to us. William really make Chemistry come alive!”

Alexander Koh

Saint Andrew’s Junior College

Thank you so much for having taught me since J1. I realized I’m one of the culprits for your “endless consultations”, so sorry! But overall, I have learnt so much from you. Lessons with you is never a mere repetition of school lectures, each lesson never failed to surprise me with new snippets of information and knowledge I probably never would have acquired had I not joined your class. Moreover, thank you very much for igniting my passion for Chemistry, I always found Chemistry to be interesting, insightful and funny whenever you taught complex concepts to us. You really make Chemistry come alive!

William, you’re the best chemistry teacher I had so far, with your short anecdotes and jokes, analogies for complex chemistry concepts and the endless patience you had while answering all my endless questions, I will never forget you!

“The lessons are very clear, packed with loads of information but yet magically concise. Thank you for impacting my walk with Chemistry, thank you for being such a fantastic teacher! “

Odelia Ong

Meridian Junior College

Thank you so much for your guidance during these 2 years for Chemistry! Your enthusiasm during lessons has encouraged me to put in more effort for Chemistry (which I don’t exactly like due to the amount of calculations involved)! But, I really enjoyed Organic Chemistry lessons because it is less math involved and really interesting, especially when there are those questions which required more thinking and make me go “Why didn’t I think of that?”. Organic Chemistry really boosted my confidence more and make me actually enjoy Chemistry. Besides that, I would like to thank you for the crash courses that you hold during the holidays. These classes helped me to see the light in those topics that I couldn’t relate to/wouldn’t understand. I can never thank you enough for this. Also, not forgetting your patience and clarity when delivering lessons! Your lessons are clear, packed with loads of information but yet magically concise. Thank you for impacting my walk with Chemistry, thank you for being such a fantastic teacher! :)

“Clear and easy-to-follow approach to Chemistry helped me alot.”

Suvichak

Dunman High School

William’s clear and easy-to-follow approach to Chemistry helped me alot. Confusing and what-the-heck concepts became pretty simple after his tuition. I also changed my mindset towards Chemistry, from something I hated to one of the subjects I would willingly practice in my own free time. He has also boosted my confidence for this subject and I can say that without his tuition, my Chemistry will never be able to achieve the A, that I’m confident of getting in the A’levels. Thanks alot dude!

“William has the ability to make Chemistry fun and interesting.”

Daryl Lim

Victoria Junior College

All credit goes to William for changing my perception of Chemistry. I still remember the days when I felt lost every lesson, unable to keep up with tutorials in school. Then, I started tuition with William. Chemistry went from being my greatest source of worry to the subject that I had the most confidence in.

His clear explanations and concise notes were a welcome departure from the ineffective mass lectures and unorganised handouts I was receiving in school. The painstakingly compiled tutorial questions given to us at the end of every topic reinforced our learning. William also made it a point to bring out the essential points for the various topics and caution us of the common mistakes, helping to strengthen our understanding of the concepts. I particularly like that he is highly approachable and possesses inexhaustible patience, never failing to attend to my endless queries and clearing any doubts I had.

William has the ability to make Chemistry fun and interesting, occasionally lightening up the atmosphere with a few of his jokes. I looked forward to every lesson and truly miss the weekly lessons. Thank you, William, for all that you have done for us. If anyone is struggling with and needs help in Chemistry, William is the one to approach. I have no doubt that he will be able to help you the way he helped us!

“What makes you such a great teacher is your unparalleled patience in explaining concepts and mechanisms”

Dear William, I am so glad i was introduced to this tuition because i do not know how i would have passed Chemistry otherwise. I was never a strong Chemistry student right from O levels’ when i just scraped a B3. But thanks to all your effort with the ‘push-list’ and all the tutorial compilations, i am finally getting C’s in school (when i used to get U’s all the way). What makes you such a great teacher is your unparalleled patience in explaining concepts and mechanisms, that really breaks down the learning process and Chemistry does not seem that hard anymore. I guess i speak for everyone when i say i am really very very humbled by the amount of effort you put in to help us improve. THANKS A BUNCH WILLIAM!

Before I met William I had it written in my head that i will never pass chemistry. With the shortest amount of time left till my A level’s, I really thought its impossible. William then help me change that by making me understand chemistry in the most interesting way possible which is by linking it to my life and the food or medication i eat . I am now able to do my ten year series and i am not afraid of chemistry.Yes! its hard but together with a wonderful teacher like William and a lot of practice on your side its possible really ! Now i have a lot more confidence in chemistry and I am looking forward to achieving good grades.

“You have always explained concepts clearly and forever eager to clear any doubts that we have.”

Thanks for everything William! You have really been a great teacher over the year. You have always explained concepts clearly and forever eager to clear any doubts that we have. You are very easy to relate to and super approachable! I really appreciate all that youhave done for us over the past year. All the worksheets and tests that you prepared personally are specially suited to our needs, and they have been really helpful to test our understanding and concepts. I am really thankful for everything that you have done for us!

“I understand Chemistry concepts really clearly. “

Celeste Chia

William has built for himself a good reputation amongst all the JCs in Singapore. I remember getting back my March Common Test results and fretting about my fate for the A’ Levels later in the year. All around me, those who did well thanked William, while my friend told me to just “try it (tuition) out”

I’ve never once regretted signing up for Making Sense. Even though my results may not have been stellar, but for once in my 2 years of JC, I understand Chemistry concepts really clearly. The whole ‘legend’ about William being good at organic chemistry is not merely a myth – you just have to sit in at his lessons and experience it for yourself. Try out his ionic equilibrium crash course too – When the lesson was   over, I had a “I can finally see it clearly now” moment !

To William: Thank you for being such a dedicated tuition teacher. I know that the going gets tough some times, but we are all really indebted to you and all that you have done for us. Press on and thanks once again! :)

“Making Sense offers an intense drilling exercise for all its students which really helped me benefit from the various challenging papers”

Joseph Ong

Tampines Junior College

Chemistry has always been the bane of my existence and Organic Chemistry was a huge turnoff for me. However, after I attended the very first lesson at Making Sense, I learnt 2 things.

Firstly, I realized that William is indeed a super caring teacher, as he took the time off to teach me individually which made me feel comfortable for my first lesson. Next, he opened my eyes to the concept of Nucleophile attacking Electrophile which really helped me a lot when I approached Organic Chemistry questions. Furthermore, the notes that Making Sense offer is always concise and full of helpful guidelines, it also has good tips for tackling various questions.

I truly enjoy every lesson at Making Sense as there’s always something new that I can take away. Lecture/Tutorial settings for lessons allow me to indirectly revisit various topics twice and to have a greater grasp of challenging questions. Also, towards the final weeks of Prelim examinations, Making Sense offers an intense drilling exercise for all its students which really helped me benefit from the various challenging papers that William provides us with.

In conclusion, Making Sense is worth every moment of my time and effort. William’s guidance gave me better clarity and confidence despite my failing grades and Making Sense certainly does live up to its name of being the best Chemistry tuition in SG.

“You re-established my foundation through lectures and exposed us to a variety of questions of various difficulties. “

Hoon Qi Tong

Tampines Junior College

Hello William! I have joined your tuition since last year and my grade then was a ‘U’. Maybe the reason was that I came from combined Science hence my Chemistry was really weak. However, after joining your lessons, you re-established my foundation through lectures and exposed us to a variety of questions of various difficulties. Thank you for staying back after class to clarify my doubts and I am really fortunate to be able to know Making Sense as I am sure most of the credit for my sustained ‘A/B’ grade now is due to your teaching (and maybe half is my hard work? =P) Thank you again and keep up the good work! :)

“One of the best tutors I have had in my life, and this is testament by the fact that I have improved by 5 whopping grades!”

Neo Wei Hong

Dunman High School

William is possibly one of the best tutors I have had in my life, and this is testament by the fact that I have improved by 5 whopping grades! He willingly sacrifices his own free time to go the extra mile to help students understand more, and all his students appreciates his efforts tremendously. Regardless of our eventual grades for A’Levels, I believe all of us will not regret joining his tuition, and we would definitely recommend anyone in need of Chemistry first-aid!

In my opinion, what truly distinguished William’s lessons apart from others was his passion for teaching and enrichment. Junior College Chemistry is no easy feat, but William imparted his knowledge in a manner that was lighthearted and inspirational. Often I found myself doing his tutorials instead of school homework because it felt much more effective and useful than the standard fare. His “know your basics” worksheets really trained my fundamentals, something I feel lacking in the fast pace of school academics and allowed me to tackle tougher questions in the examinations.

In a syllabus where much memory work was required, William taught us easy-to-remember techniques that were catchy and interesting, achieving productivity as well as some relaxing laughs. Such opportunities offered me a chance to recharge and absorb more from his lessons. Even long after class, he would stay back and help out with any questions from the students to improve their understanding.

Nearing the exams, he would ensure that the weaker students did practice outside of tuition and marked their work as a form of responsibility. Even though this meant extra workload, he still did it willingly, which was something that earned my utmost respect. His lesson is something I would highly recommend to any JC student struggling to cope with chemistry. His unique teaching methodology transformed my perception of chemistry as a dry and dull subject to a fascinating one.

“He was always clear and concise in his explanations, and tells us specifically what points to take note of. His effective teaching eventually built up my confidence in the subject.”

Cynthia Wong

Hwa Chong Junior College

Since J1, chemistry lessons and tests have been a constant source of fear. No matter how I tried, I just couldn’t keep up with the subject, and I fell more and more behind trying to grapple with the syllabus. When I joined the class in J2, all that changed. With William’s help I began to understand organic chemistry and the logic behind it instead of simply memorizing the mechanisms and conditions. He was always clear and concise in his explanations, and tells us specifically what points to take note of. His effective teaching eventually built up my confidence in the subject. He’s been a great teacher!

“William is the most caring and patient teacher I have ever seen.“

Shermaine Loi

Serangoon Junior College

William is the most caring and patient teacher I have ever seen. Not only that, his teaching is also good. In secondary school, I dropped from pure Chem to combined Chem because i have never scored more than 30% for Chem. Ironically, I took up H2 Chem. As expected, I failed Chem throughout again, even until CT. Out of desperation, I took up Chem tuition with william. Through his explainations, i can clearly comprehend the Chemistry behind what was taught, instead of blindly memorising facts which did not make sense. Under his guidance, i managed to score a B in my prelims, much to my surprise. This gave me hope and motivation to do well for the A’ Levels. Thank you William =)

William has been an exceptional educator guiding me for 1.5 years. During this 1.5 years, he has displayed patience and competence, distinguishing William from any of my teachers I have seen in my college years. To me, the one value that really makes him such a special teacher is his 100% commitment to his students. He has a few hundreds of students, yet he knows the strengths and weaknesses of almost all his students, replies to our messages without fail even late at night, stays back late to give us consultations- just a few things that makes William a born educator. That is not all, in terms of teaching, William is exceptional too. He just has that ability to make Chemistry seem simple, any of his past students can attest to that. Furthermore, his notes and questions given are of the highest quality. His materials always aptly prepare us for tough questions that schools and Cambridge like to ask.

On a whole, William is truly an asset to any JC kid taking Chemistry because he is able to make Chemistry so simple and also boosting students’ confidence along the way. As his student for 1.5 years, and as a junior of numerous seniors who were taught by William, I would really recommend William to any JC kid as they will truly breeze through Chemistry. If you find Chemistry daunting, look for William, it is that simple!

“Thanks William, for giving me the confidence and courage to face Chemistry, and making the Straight A-s I achieved, possible.”

Ho Li Ying Christina

Dunman High School

For me, Confidence and Courage were not the words to be associated with Chemistry then. It was demoralizing to not reap the results despite all the effort put in.

William’s tutoring just proved that memorizing wasn’t the way to go. With his patient explanations, I actually UNDERSTOOD the rationals behind formulas and answers, and I was actually interested in Chemistry! Despite receiving a D during the Prelims, though worried, at the back of my head, I was confident that with his intensive practice, I would eventually fare better. And I did! In fact, the best in my entire JC life. Thanks William, for giving me the confidence and courage to face Chemistry, and making the Straight A-s I achieved, possible.

“Your effort is very clear in the way you are so patient in addressing doubts.”

Rohit Kumar

Innova Junior College

Before I met you William, I had absolutely no interest whatsoever in Chemistry. I couldn’t understand how people could actually do worksheets and understand anything related to Chemistry. I was genuinely, hopelessly, lost. After I joined your tuition, everything changed. The painfully concise notes that are easy to read and understand, long notes from school were immediately replaced by your tutorials and notes. Your effort is very clear in the way you are so patient in addressing doubts, explaining again when I didn’t get it.

Apart from academics and all the technical things, you are really one of the best person I’ve ever met. You stayed back till late to hear me out and guided me through my journey. You are not a teacher, you are a mentor. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, William. Not just for teaching me, or being nice to me or guiding me through the syllabus. But thank you for making me appreciate Chemistry. To end, I’ll remember something you once said to me, “Life shouldn’t suck. It’s okay to not understand things but it’s not okay to ignore your doubts.”

“Your lessons have been fun, engaging, interestin.”

Nicole Rosenburg

Raffles Junior College

Hi Mr William!! 8 weeks has passed by so fast and its finally the last lesson, Thank you for all the help you have given me, I really appreciate it =). Before your tuition, i did not feel confident about Chemistry at all, although i really liked Chemistry. But after your tuition, you have taught me how to appreciate and understand Chemistry better, and for that i will always be grateful =). Your lessons have been fun, engaging, interesting and i had a really great time! Hopefully, i will be able to get the grade i would like for A’s and let my hard work pay off. You have been a really patient and inspiring teacher, and i will definitely let you low how Chemistry went when A level results come out =). Take care, and hope you liked the home-made cookies! :)

“I really learnt alot from your lessons.”

Han Ching Yun

Dunman High School

Hello William! I will like to thank you for coaching me for the past few months. I really enjoy the lessons and how you incorporated jokes and fun facts into the boring curriculum. I really learnt alot from your lessons. You are a really dedicated teacher who does answer key for us and even answer our questions through watsapp late at night, and it’s hard to fins such a passionate teacher like you. Frankly speaking, my physical chem has improved and it’s all thanks to you for making me understand that topics well instead of just memorising the facts blindly, hence I really really like your teaching style.

I really hope I can do well as an appreciation for the time and effort you’ve put into teaching us. Really want to thank you for allowing me to regain confidence in Chemistry and not think it is a scary subject anymore. All the best in your career and family and many many thanks!

“I am glad you have been a part of my journey; juggling between army and studies. You are a great help to me and i am sure more students would benefit from your teaching.”

Joel Ong

Serangoon Junior College

Hey William, thanks for helping me all this while for my Chemistry. I have certainly learnt and understood more, especially in terms of organic chemistry mechanism. Although it had mostly been a struggle for myself this year, I am glad you have been a part of my journey; juggling between army and studies. You are a great help to me and i am sure more students would benefit from your teaching, if ever, do not lose heart and the passion because many students value the time and effort you put in. Thanks once again, will definitely recommend your help to others. Wishing you the very best!

“He makes chemistry bearable, and almost fun.”

Low Yue Huan

Dunman High School

Mr William has been a very kind, patient, and passionate teacher, who has a strong grasp in his knowledge for chemistry.

I first joined his lessons halfway through year 6, holding on to the belief that it was too late to seek for help, where I was still scoring Us for chemistry. However, I was proven wrong. Shortly after starting tuition, I started to pass chemistry tests. This was, of course, much thanks to Mr William’s help. He was patient with me, despite my endless queries. After lessons, he always stays back without complaint to help us with our work, doing more than he is required.

The organic chemistry crash course was the most useful out of all of his lessons. Mr William skillfully explains the intricacies of organic chemistry, while ensuring that the lesson stays fun and interesting. After attending the crash course, I had a stronger grasp for organic chemistry, and I knew the key things to memorize instead of being lost in the sea of information. Furthermore, his explanations are clear and easy to comprehend.

Mr William’s teaching is reinforced by his caring and fun personality, from his random chemistry jokes to making conversations with his students. He makes chemistry bearable, and almost fun. He has been a great help with my chemistry, and I definitely owe my A grade to him. I am very grateful for his guidance, and would certainly recommend him as a chemistry tutor.

“Lessons are really well-segmented and in all honesty, my mind has not drifted away ninety-nine percent of the time.”

Vivien Lim Jing Ni

Nanyang Junior College

William’s lessons are really well-segmented and in all honesty, my mind has not drifted away ninety-nine percent of the time. The way he allocates time for each activity and then rewarding breaks in between -albeit trivial-it keeps people like me with short attention spans awake and keeps my mind activated.

Also, his detailed worked solutions for the “push-list”are indeed useful in helping me to clear my own doubts. Thanks a lot!! :) Your passion for teaching chemistry has made me (and i am sure other students too) really enjoy learning Chemistry.

“Thank you for being patient when teaching me and all your awesome notes and materials that have helped me tremendously for my preparation for the A’ Levels.”

Joan Lee Shuying

Meridian Junior College

Thank you so so much for all your help, I probably would be very lost with the whole retaking affair. I am really very grateful for your generosity and kindness that you are willing to teach me Chemistry again and at zero cost which is something I can never thank or repay you enough for. Thank you for being patient when teaching me and all your awesome notes and materials that have helped me tremendously for my preparation for the A’ Levels. Thank you so much for helping me gain confidence in Chemistry and encouraging me despite me being a repeat student. There is so much I want to thank you for which no words can express!!! Really thank you so much!! May God bless you and your family !!

“Each lesson is carefully crafted to integrate past and future concepts”

Joy Ong

Hwa Chong Junior College

Give the challenges in JC, I am sure many of us have felt helpless and even afraid. William has been amazingly supportive during all his lessons, where his lecture-tutorial system mirrors that of the JC syllabus, and each lesson is carefully crafted to integrate past and future concepts. In the end, I feel that it has really helped me to view my Chemistry syllabus in greater entirety. I really am grateful for how William   goes beyond lessons to free up time for consultations, revision lectures and giving extra practices for students on the “push list”. I believe many   students like myself appreciate how much effort William has put in behind-the-scenes till we have to remind him to take a break :) The A levels   period is definitely even more taxing as William will personally choose questions compiled from prelim papers from that same year. We are   motivated to do our best for chemistry because we have such an incredible teacher! Thank you William!

“He never fails to deliver effective lessons which tackle the essence of each Chemistry topic, and all his notes are really in-depth yet concise.”

Sharon Leong

Raffles Junior College

William is one of the most dedicated and capable teachers I’ve met. He never fails to deliver effective lessons which tackle the essence of each Chemistry topic, and all his notes are really in-depth yet concise. Before going for his tuition, I thought Organic Chemistry was all about memorizing and so I didn’t really comprehend the mechanisms, but after attending William’s lessons, I’ve learnt so much more and achieved a much deeper understanding and appreciation for Organic Chemistry mechanisms.

William is really effective in simplifying complicated concepts for us to absorb more easily. More importantly, he is really committed, as can be seen from how he works out solutions to topical MCQ questions manually and uploads them on his website for students to download and this has helped me a lot in my revision. William also encourages us to arrange for consultations and ask questions whenever in doubt. Consultations with him have been really productive and I’ve learnt so much more. Last but not least, he’s super encouraging and always motivates us to work harder and my Chemistry has definitely improved tremendously under his guidance!

“The way you teach makes it easier for learning because its very clear and straight forward.”

Nicole Chan

Raffles Junior College

Hi William! Just wanted to thank you for being extremely patient with me and always answering my many many questions. And also for constantly encouraging me! All along I had thought my Chemistry wasn’t too bad, but when I got a D for CT2, I was really shocked and wondered if all this time I had overestimated myself, and I started to doubt myself. But you always encouraged me and told me that my Chem was alright, so you really saved my confidence as well :)

The way you teach also makes it easier for learning because its very clear and straight forward. And I also think its good that you are able to cater to students of different learning abilities, which is difficult for our school teachers to do.

Most of all, I want to thank you for all the effort that you have invested, because you really really did give us alot of yourself. I am really grateful that you try to get us the best material and prepare so much for every lesson. I greatly respect any teacher who is so dedicated to his / her students, and is genuinely passionate about their job. It is difficult to come across such teachers anymore, so I’m glad I found one :-)

Now that A’s is over, take a super long well deserved break, coz next year you gotta start doing the same crazy thing for your students again! We work hard for one year, and then its over, But you have to do it every year! And honestly I think you work harder than some of us haha. But don’t stop what you are doing, because honestly you are saving many students and many of them more in the years to come! I hope that every year your students will do you proud, and do the best that they can and leave no regrets. Thank you for all that you have done, you deserve an A* ! :-)

He puts things into a different perspective, making them easier to understand.”

Tan Jia Xiu

Anglo-Chinese Junior College

Before coming for tuition, I never ever got anything above an E for any major exam (mid years, terms, promos, the like). I somehow just couldn’t grasp the concepts behind the various chem topics. Due to personal commitments previously, I started tuition late. But within the short span of four months, William managed to pull my grades up to a C for my prelims!!! :)

He puts things into a different perspective, making them easier to understand. Also, he has very organised notes which definitely helps make the studying process more efficient and pleasant. :)

Thanks William! If I get an A, it’s thanks to you. If I don’t, it’s thanks to my carelessness (and stupidity for changing question at the last minute for paper 3) But all that aside, thank you!!!
