JC students – Embrace your year ahead with confidence

December 30,2021
Dear JC Students,
2022 is here! We hope you had a great holiday and it is time for you to make concrete plans for the year ahead. Making plans for the future and acting on that plan every day will go a long way to helping you achieve your goals for 2022. Here is a list of important dates and milestones to help in your planning.
A toast to your success in your year ahead! Have fun! 🙂
January

LAST BIT OF FUN BEFORE THE GRIND STARTS

J2s, your term starts on 10 Jan 2022 but J1s, your term starts later in February. However, whether your term starts earlier or later, do set realistic goals (regarding academics, CCA etc) in advance and take concrete steps throughout the year to achieve them!

Holiday: New Year’s Day (1 Jan 2022)

February

RECHARGE WITH CNY GOODIES

J1s, it’s an exciting period for you! Enjoy orientation to the fullest with the right mindset – step out of your comfort zone and be open to meeting new friends! Bond over CNY goodies but remember to drink more water, don’t fall sick!

Holiday: Chinese New Year (1 Feb & 2 Feb 2022)

March

THE GRIND STARTS NOW

March Common Tests (only for J2s) will be held after the one-week break in March.  Take this as a first checkpoint to see where you are from your goal. For the J1s, you will be allocated to your PW groups.  Understand your group dynamics and play to each individual’s strengths to get that A! You will also be introduced to your first tough competitor: Chemical Bonding! If you feel that things are piling up, you are not alone.  Everyone goes through this phase. Do explore ways to cope! 🙂

Holiday: March Holidays (12 Mar – 20 Mar 2022)

April

DO YOUR SCHOOL PROUD.

Nationals have arrived! Cherish these last few opportunities to represent your school. As you juggle even more commitments, it’s normal for your grades to fluctuate during this period so don’t worry! Ask a good friend to take notes for you and go for regular consultations with your teachers to catch up on what you have missed.  Don’t let your work pile up!

Holiday: Good Friday (15 Apr 2022)

May

YOUR PREPARATION FOR UNI STARTS NOW

J2s, start preparing for your SGC. Do up a list of all your achievements (academic and non-academic) in the last two years. SGC writing can be quite tedious so do start early! J1s and J2s, GP MYEs will commence before the start of the June Holidays. Allocate time to memorise your examples for Paper 1 and get your techniques right for Paper 2!

Holiday: Labour Day (1 May 2022), Hari Raya Puasa (3 May 2022), Vesak Day (15 Mar 2022)

June

START MUGGING NOW

J2s, if you are applying for US universities, you can consider taking the June SATs. June holidays are not holidays, sadly. J1s and J2s should take the time to revise for MYEs.  Keep a look out for any holiday programmes offered by tuition centres to help you catch up!

Holiday: June Holidays (28 May – 26 Jun 2022)

July

MID-YEAR EXAMS

Do take a break after your MYEs! You deserve it! See the MYEs as another pit stop and take active steps to push yourself closer to your goal.  If you are still struggling, consider seeking external help (look out for our post about tuition next week!). You don’t have to be alone in this battle!

Holiday: Hari Raya Haji (10 Jul 2022)

August

WEAR RED ON 9TH AUG TO SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR SG

J2s, your prelims are approaching.  Many college early admission applications depend on your Prelim results. Give it your best shot! J1s, you will be formally introduced to Organic Chemistry. 65 Organic Chem reactions to memorise! Want to know a way to memorise them all with the least memory work? We’ve got you covered!

Holiday: National Day (9 Aug 2022)

September

JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE, THINK OF ALL THE HAPPY THINGS TO DO AFTER A LEVELS

Don’t be demoralised by your prelim results! Use it to find your weak points and work on them before the A levels! Eat healthily and find time to relax, don’t burn out! Remember to get sufficient rest! J1s, Promos can be used to gauge any problematic areas.  Seek help to address them early such that they don’t bog you down in J2!

Holiday: September Holidays (3 Sep – 11 Sep 2022)

October

LET THE MARATHON BEGIN (A LEVELS & PW)

J2s, A level practicals will begin at the end of October. Be familiar with the common experiment types and planning questions. Always remain calm! It would be useful to start attempting other schools’ prelim papers as they will be spotting potential questions in the A levels!

J1s, the deadline to submit your Written Report is approaching! Do your best and leave no regrets!

Holiday: Deepavali (24 Oct 2022)

November

VERY VERY NEAR THE END! DON’T GIVE UP!

The A levels last for 1 whole month, so self-care is REALLY important.  Keep looking forward and don’t let past papers affect your upcoming ones! Jiayou!! J1s, start your homework early. Procrastination is a big no no, keep that monkey in check! Spend your holidays fruitfully and remember to consolidate what you have learnt in the year so far! Your 2023 self will thank your 2022 self, trust 🙂

Holiday: (J1) EOY Holidays (26 Nov – 31 Dec 2022)

December

THE GRIND ENDS HERE, EXCEPT YOU DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO LOL

J2s, you can start finding internships to gain some working experience before the start of your next chapter in uni. J1s, look out for any holiday programmes to help you build a strong foundation before you go into J2. It’s going to be another mad rush next year! Good luck!
